If you’re a Linux user and not real sure about how it’s going to go when you plug your Droid into your Linux box, here are some steps to take. It’s going to go smoothly, you’ll see… soon you’ll be able to sync your Droid in Linux, copy mp3s to your Droid in Linux, etc…
First, plug in your Droid to your computer with the included USB cable. The following is what your Linux system will spit out in /var/log/messages:
Next, on your Droid’s screen (upper/left corner – where email notifications are) you’ll see a USB icon. Pull down the menu and it’ll ask if you want to connect to your PC to share files.. click ok.. then click ‘mount’. The following is what your /var/log/messages will spit out when you do this…
On your desktop, you’ll see an icon noting that your Droid is indeed mounted..
If you double click that icon, it’ll show the contents on your Droid (well… the contents on the SD card inside your Droid)..

I spent some time searching for a way to mount my Droid to my Fedora 12, and well you said the one thing I forgot, you have to tell the droid to mount to the computer.
Geesh, did I feel dumb. Anyway thanks for the great article.
How bout few topics on great way to save battery life – Turn off GPS unless you need it, oh and the application that everyone will need is Advanced Task Killer, keeps those background apps under control.
What about droid-x????? Will it work with linux?? Can I see the droid as an attached drive from my ubuntu box?
